UUID Generator

Generate random UUIDs (v4) or time-ordered UUIDs (v7).

What is a UUID?

A UUID (universally unique identifier) is a 128-bit value used to label records, files or events without a central authority handing out numbers. The chance of two random UUIDs colliding is practically zero.

Version 4 is entirely random. Version 7 starts with a millisecond timestamp, so values sort by creation time, which makes them friendlier to database indexes.

How to use the UUID Generator

  1. 1Pick the UUID version and how many you need.
  2. 2Adjust the format (case, hyphens) if required.
  3. 3Copy the list or download it as a text file.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between UUID v4 and v7?

v4 is 122 bits of randomness. v7 combines a Unix timestamp in milliseconds with random bits, so newer IDs sort after older ones.

Are these UUIDs unique?

Yes for all practical purposes. They are generated with your browser's secure random generator.

Is a UUID the same as a GUID?

GUID is Microsoft's name for the same format.
