How discounts add up

A discount of 20 percent on 80 means paying 80 × (1 − 0.20) = 64. You save 16.

Two discounts do not add up. 20 percent followed by another 10 percent is not 30 percent off but 28 percent, because the second one applies to the already reduced price.

How to use the Discount Calculator

  1. 1Enter the original price.
  2. 2Enter the discount, and an extra discount if any.
  3. 3Read the final price and savings.

Frequently asked questions

Are two discounts added together?

No, they are applied one after another, so the combined effect is slightly smaller than the sum.

Does it include tax?

No. Enter the price including or excluding tax as you prefer; the result has the same basis.
