How VAT is calculated
To add VAT, multiply the net price by 1 plus the rate: net × (1 + rate ÷ 100). To remove VAT from a gross price, divide by the same factor.
A common mistake is subtracting the percentage from the gross price. That gives the wrong net amount, because the VAT is a share of the net price, not of the gross.
